I ALMOST FORGOT! TODAY IS GIVE-A-WINGNUT-A-HAND DAY

>

The most extreme of the right wing kooks are all signing a pledge not to contribute a dime to any Republican who doesn't support the Bush-McCain-Lieberman Escalation Plan. This is a fantastic idea and we should all lend a hand. I just signed their pledge myself. After I signed I got this back from them:
The senators most likely to rethink their support for such a resolution [John Warner's] after the testimony by General Petraeus that such a resolution would be an encouragement to our enemy are Minnesota's Norm Coleman, Maine's Susan Collins and Oregon's Gordon Smith. All three are serious senators and good people, but they need to rethink possible support for the resolution in light of the Petraeus testimony and the president's speech last night. Senator Coleman's office number is (202) 224-5641. Senator Smith's office number is (202) 224-3753. Senator Collins' office number is (202) 224-2523.

If Smith, Coleman and Collins support the escalation they'll be defeated, a fabulous prospect-- or 3 fabulous prospects. I also like the idea of the right wing nut machine boycotting them and boycotting the NRSC if they donate any money to the senators not supporting the escalation. Glenn Greenwald did an extended post on it.

Hagel and Warner are also against the escalation on some level and they're both up for re-election next year; and even Elizabeth Dole and Saxby Chamberpot have made anti-surge bleats lately. So go sign the wingnut pledge and, to paraphrase the late, great Clash, give the extremists enough rope to hang themselves.
